A Diverse STEAM Middle School
At McMurray Middle School, our diverse student population represents 18 different languages. Our teachers work to provide a quality education so that all students-including English learners-can develop strong language, critical thinking and social skills within a supportive and culturally respectful environment.
We are a STEAM school, meaning our academics are focused on science, technology, engineering, the arts and math. Literature and arts are also taught daily. Our students have the opportunity to gain high-school credit in advanced placement classes, including Physical Science, Spanish and Algebra I.
During the school day and after school every day, we offer tutoring to support our students' academic success. In addition, McMurray is a Title I school, so we receive federal funds that allow us to provide our students with the best possible materials and technology-including the 9,000 books that are housed in our library.
After school, extracurricular activities give students a chance to explore additional talents and interests such as guitar, band, art, gardening, Student Government Association or cheerleading/dance, to name a few. The yearbook and newspaper teams are also fun ways our students can be involved in making something the entire school can enjoy.
Sports teams and intramural teams provide an active outlet and another way to bond with fellow students while learning social skills. McMurray offers TSSAA sanctioned basketball, boys' or girls' soccer, girls' volleyball, wrestling, track and field and football teams, all waiting to be cheered on by our local Falcon fans!
We support our surrounding community by providing a food bank and clothing closet, which are open to families in need. We also offer STARS counseling services for students and families. At McMurray Middle, our goal is to create a strong partnership with parents and the community to help our students become successful, productive members of society.
